Raspbian and Raspberry Pi OS (Raspberry Pi)

Just a quick blog post about my favourite mini computer, the Raspberry Pi.

This morning (Thursday 28th May 2020) the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the launch of the 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 (official news here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/8gb-raspberry-pi-4-on-sale-now-at-75/) to join the year old 4GB and 2GB Raspberry Pi 4*

Alongside the news of the new Pi model was also the news that the operating system, Raspbian is getting a new name: Raspberry Pi OS.

Raspberry Pi OS has a 32-bit version, which Pi users will already be used to and coming soon (it’s in beta test) a 64-bit version.

The official download for the OS is the usual Raspberry Pi downloads page: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ and a beta test of the 64-bit version (for Pi3 and Pi4 models) is available via the Raspberry Pi Forums: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=275370 , however it does come with the usual beta test warnings (i.e. it is a beta, not a final release and should be used for testing).

For more details on the 8GB Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi OS check out the June 2020 issue/issue 94 of MagPi magazine, which is available as a free PDF here: https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/issues/94 or to purchase via the Raspberry Pi Press Store here: https://store.rpipress.cc/products/the-magpi-magazine-94

* Note: There was a 1GB Raspberry Pi 4 but that was retired a little while ago.
